Cadets who join the "Panther Pride Corps of Cadets" will have the opportunity to explore exciting military careers, with no military obligation, explore college entrance and job opportunities, while developing leadership skills using Army themes.
The JROTC mission is to motivate students to be better citizens. JROTC leadership and education curriculum was developed nationally using the latest teaching methods with units covering character development, leadership, physical fitness, American history, citizenship, government, geography, earth science and military skills.
JROTC also offers many opportunities for team building, advancement, self-discipline and achievement while also giving back to the community. Cadets earning a position in the Armed Forces will enjoy advanced rank placement, scholarship opportunities for college ROTC and competitive placement with military academies. Uniforms and textbooks are provided for free.

American Legion Post #534 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #7033 of Mayodan, NC along with Morehead HS Army JROTC Corps of Cadets and Morehead HS chorus visited Jacob’s Creek Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on Friday, Nov. 10, 2023 to celebrate Veteran’s Day with 12 veterans who are currently residing there. The cadets assisted staff with serving snacks and delivering gifts to the Veterans, while the Chorus sang God Bless America and Amazing Grace.

North Carolina A&T University "Aggie Battalion" briefing on senior Army rotc!
On March 16, 2023 the NC A&T SROTC "Aggie Battalion" visited the Morehead High School Army JROTC "Panther Pride Battalion" and shared helpful information on what the life of a cadet is like on campus and how to prepare for success to be a Commissioned Officer in the United States Army.

NC American Legion Division III held its Oratorical contest at Post 6 in Chapel Hill, NC (February 11, 2023)
On February 11, 2023 the NC American Legion Division III held its Oratorical contest at Post 6 in Chapel Hill, NC. Three out of five districts submitted their District winners to compete in this competition on the Constitution and its Amendments.
With 75 spectators listening, Cadet Sergeant First Class Caroline Call-Artis, a sophomore at Morehead High School representing William C. Johnson Post #534 Mayodan, NC gave her presentation on "Who Am I-What it means to be a good citizen and the 16th Amendment-Congress's right to impose Federal Income Tax". The five judges consisted of a Doctor, a Retired College professor, a local Chapel Hill small business owner, a former Air Force ROTC instructor, and a City councilperson as the youth of America shined.
All three candidates are winners, but the competition rules only allowed the Division to send one student to the Department of NC level competition on March 4, 2023. Caroline finished in 3rd place and received a Certificate of Appreciation, Division III coin, Oratorical Bronze Medal, and a check for $200.00 from the Division III Commander Bo Durham.

MHS COLOR GUARD AT NC SENATE OPENING (JANUARY 11, 2023)
I wanted to share a "Cadets in the News" opportunity, a few pictures and the link to the video of the 2023 opening session of the North Carolina Senate. The Panther Battalion had the honor of conducting the Color Guard for the ceremony. The Color Guard is granted permission to enter the Senate Chamber by LT Governor Robinson at the 5:30 mark on the video. The session was broadcast live throughout the state of North Carolina.
One additional note... The gentleman second from the left in the second photo is NC Senate Majority Leader Phil Berger Sr. He is the Senator that invited us to participate in the ceremony. The names of the individuals are based on the first photo from left to right.
